Modernizing Reporting for a Regional Insurance Provider

Delivering faster, more reliable underwriting insights with a modern cloud-based reporting solution.

A leading agricultural insurance provider in Western Canada needed to modernize its underwriting reporting process to better support decision-making and improve operational efficiency. Their existing system made it challenging to consolidate data across multiple regions and transform it into actionable insights for management and stakeholders.

The organization faced significant delays in accessing reliable reporting data. Information was stored in various systems and formats, making it difficult for underwriters and managers to track performance, assess risk, and make timely business decisions. Reports were largely manual, error-prone, and lacked the agility to adapt to evolving business needs.

I was part of a team tasked with designing and implementing a scalable, cloud-based data pipeline to centralize, transform, and visualize critical business data. Leveraging Azure Data Factory, I built automated data movement processes to transfer information from multiple data sources into secure cloud storage. Once ingested, I developed a series of optimized SQL Server views to reshape and prepare the data for reporting.

Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, I assisted in designing a Power BI dashboard that provided intuitive, interactive access to key underwriting metrics. This included developing Power Query transformations and DAX measures to deliver dynamic insights on policy performance, risk exposure, and regional trends.

The project enabled the client to move from static, manual reports to a fully automated, near real-time reporting ecosystem. Underwriters and managers could now view up-to-date metrics at a glance, make informed decisions faster, and identify trends across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta with ease. This improvement reduced reporting delays from days to hours, minimized manual errors, and provided a strong foundation for future analytics initiatives.
