A major UK retail brand needed a cutting-edge data and marketing platform to engage millions of customers with tailored, behavior-driven communications. Their legacy systems struggled to handle the volume, velocity, and complexity of customer interactions across channels, limiting their ability to deliver personalized offers and optimize marketing performance.
The client managed a customer base of over 4 million but faced challenges in delivering relevant, timely, and personalized communications. Data was scattered across multiple systems, including e-commerce, tills, email marketing, and reward platforms. Manual processes slowed campaign execution, and personalization efforts were constrained by disconnected data pipelines and limited predictive capabilities.
As part of the development team, I played a key role in designing and implementing a scalable, automated data ecosystem to unify, process, and activate vast amounts of customer behavioral and transactional data.
ETL & Data Integration: Designed and maintained SSIS-driven ETL processes to pull 0.5TB of data nightly from APIs, transactional systems, and online platforms.
Personalized Campaigns: Created multi-stage, hyper-personalized marketing journeys leveraging click-through behavior, web browsing data, and transaction histories to deliver relevant offers and rewards.
Advanced Analytics: Supported and maintained predictive models and scoring algorithms to assess individual propensities, enabling highly targeted campaigns.
System Integration: Orchestrated seamless connectivity between the customer database, campaign management toolkit, offer engine, and retail point-of-sale systems to enable omnichannel communication.
This solution enabled the client to deliver dynamic, personalized marketing communications at scale—reaching over 4 million customers with tailored offers that increased engagement, improved loyalty, and drove measurable sales uplift. Campaign execution cycles were dramatically reduced, personalization became a core capability, and the business gained a data-driven foundation for ongoing innovation in customer marketing.
